The Yakima city government, the county commissioners, are concerned over adult video stores flooding their city. They realized there is currently no zoning ordinance for adult businesses in unincorporated areas of the county.
They directed public works to look into the situation.

The result is a 6-month moratorium on places like strip clubs, sex shops and adult video stores. The time will be used to create a zoning ordinance that they feel is appropriate in areas like Terrace Heights, Buena, Gleed and Tieton. Vicki Barry owns an Adult joke shop.
She feels it is unfair to single out adult businesses. "Adult business is no different than the wine tasting rooms on Yakima Avenue", she says.

She questions the wisdom of restricting adult business at a time when the county could use all the retail sales tax revenue it can get. However budget director Craig Warner tells me he doesn't think delaying the opening of businesses would cost the county money, because there aren't currently any trying to open in the un-incorporated areas of the city.
Adult businesses such as Adam & Eve, and Four Star Video are based in Yakima, WA as well as the Adult Joke Shop. JRL will watch this case closely and will bring new developments as they arise.
