Friday, January 22, 2010, a man contacted police to report an assault that allegedly happened the night before at the Moore Hotel in downtown Seattle, WA.According to a police report, the victim alleges that he checked in to the Moore hotel around 5:00 p.m. with a guest, and was set to do a show later on that evening in town.
When rehearsal was over with, the victim and his guest returned to the Moore hotel where the nighttime desk clerk confronted them regarding their hotel room bill.
The victim stated that he felt the clerk thought he was going to stiff him on his hotel bill and that he had no intention of paying for his hotel room when in fact he had left his credit card on file for the charges when he first checked in.

According to the police report, a brief verbal argument ensued between the clerk, victim and the victim's guest. When the vocals reached a higher pitch, another hotel staff member arrived on the scene.
Victim's friend agreed to pay for the bill to get this matter over with. But as the hotel guests walked to the elevator, the friend asked the night clerk quote on quote 'why he was being such a "dick."?
The other hotel employee, according to the officer, stated "at least he wasn't going to get 'AIDS.'
The man, clearly offended by the remark, said, "fuck you" to the clerk. "At that moment, both of the staff members of the Moore hotel allegedly grabbed the victim and dragged him from the elevator and threw him to the concrete outside," the police report states. During the assault, Seattle police department records continue, the man's friend was "slammed into the wall."

Once outside, the night clerk walked away, but the other employee stood by and stated, "I get off work in 20 minutes, faggot, so stick around," according to the Seattle PD records. Again, the victim said "fuck you" and had started to walk away from the scene. The officer on scene noted that the victim "had evident injury to his left wrist (swollen), and abrasions to his left hand and right elbow."
The following day, the hotel manager was contacted by Seattle PD investigators and he "apologized for the events and was shocked at what had occurred at the Moore hotel" according to the police report. Investigators also stated that the hotel manager stated that "he would pay all [the victims'] medical bills from the event."
Now before anyone begins to state that the Moore Hotel is homophobic, they are not. One of the clerks who has been with the Moore hotel for years stated that he has never had a problem with the family owned Moore Hotel. He has worked for them for over 5 years and they have always treated him and his partner very well and have never condoned any type of discrimination.
According to the clerk that I spoke with prior to running this story, the family who owns the Moore Hotel have never been negative toward our gay clientele and that this was an isolated incident. What appears to have happened is, tempers flared and things simply got out of hand on both sides.
The next time you are in Seattle, make sure to stop by the Moore Hotel is located right next door to the famous "The Moore Theater" at 1926 2nd Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101.
