KEITH WITCHKA INTERVIEWS FALCON STUDIOS DIRECTOR OF MARKETING TROY PRICKETT EXCLUSIVELY ON JRL
Posted Wednesday June 18, 2008 12:00 a.m. PDT
Keith: I have the great honor of talking with Troy Prickett of Falcon Studios. As you know JRL fans, there has been a lot of changes in the Gay Adult Film Industry as of late and Falcon is no stranger to the major changes. Well now, the rumors can be put to bed because we have the one, the only Troy Prickett here to answer the questions and to kill, the outrageous rumors being said about the Falcon Organization.
Keith: Troy How are you?
Troy: Doing great - summer has finally arrived and the rest of 2008 is going to be amazing for Falcon.
Keith: I want to get right in to it and discuss the resignation of Todd Montgomery as CEO and partner of Falcon Studios. What happened?
Troy: You know - we all have a point where we move on - nothing is forever. Mr.Montgomery has simply moved on, there's no scandalous story to tell.
Keith: Will Todd Montgomery be consulted from time to time on issues pertaining to Falcon Studios?
Troy: I don't believe so.
Keith: Winter Heat [2008] is receiving good heat from retailers already and should be debuting real soon on the JRL Weekly Top 100 in America. Do you see this particular gay xxx feature film going all the way to the top in America?
Troy: "Winter Heat" has two things going for it - an incredibly beautiful boxcover featuring the amazing Roman Heart and the sex to back it up. Roman's scene with Eddie Diaz is scorchingly hot and when newcomers Nash Lawler and Kai Ford hit the screen - WOW! OH - and there's an incredible scene with Falcon Exclusive Couple Aden & Jordan Jaric - their sex scenes just keep getting hotter and hotter.
Troy Continues....:The film also features Vinnie D'Angelo, Jude Collin and Justin Jameson. My prediction is that this film will most certainly make it to the top by the time you print this story. We also have “Afterparty” coming which features Erik Rhodes in THREE scenes – no one knows how to party like Erik and in this film he lets it all hang out. Also on the way is “Roman’s Holiday” which was shot entirely in Buenos Aires, Argentina – Roman meets the men of South America and believe me – they show him a good time!
Keith: Jocks Studios has been very busy as of late. Are you focusing on Jocks and Mustang Studios a lot more for the Summer Season?
Troy: We'll be producing more Mustang films than Jocks in 2008 but we'll be focusing on both of them. This summer will be light on Mustang and Jocks releases but will pick back up again in late summer/early fall. Paul Baressi who’s done an amazing job directing our Mustang films since his debut release, “Greased”, will continue to sit in the directors chair and Jocks will continue to be helmed by director Peter Romero. Jocks has served two purposes for us – a line of pro-am content and up-and-coming talent that we can ‘graduate’ into Mustang and Falcon films.

Keith: How was the transition from moving to Pulse Distribution from Paladin Distribution a couple of years back?
Troy: The transition was remarkably smooth. We gave ourselves plenty of time to prepare for the move, and we had multiple meetings between the management and sales staff to implement the right strategies. We were able to launch the relationship with Pulse with the release of our double feature blockbuster 'Cross Country 1' which held the No.1 spot in America on the JRL Weekly Top 100 for four (4) solid weeks and the sequel, 'Cross Country 2 which also climbed to hold on to the No.2 spot in America on the JRL Weekly Top 100. This was a great way to attract Pulse's entire customer base.
Keith: Pulse Distribution has truly been putting heavy promotion behind the Falcon brand. What makes Falcon and Pulse click so well together?
Troy: Falcon was Pulse's first major studio signing, and there's a built-in appreciation at Pulse for the risk that Falcon took in making the move over to them. The other thing that has helped is that there have been very few changes in the sales and marketing area in both companies. For example, Pulse's lead sales representative for Falcon has been Janet Tamborelli since the start of our relationship, and that consistency in communication has proved to be invaluable.

Keith: Back in May, Falcon launched FalconSTr8Men.com which features exclusive Falcon content geared to the Straight-Guy-Goes-Gay-genre. How did you guys come up with this concept?
Troy: Falcon Str8men was and is inspired by many, many different sites. It’s our first stand-alone site and we’re really excited about the potential it has. We wanted to create a site that featured incredibly hot straight guys who were of Falcon quality. The concept of using straight guys for a gay site isn’t anything original but what we’re offering that’s different is the quality of men - men that you aren’t seeing on other sites. These men are straight but when the money’s right – they get curious remarkably fast. The other great thing about Falcon Str8men is that it’s a partnership with NakedSword so we’ll be working on some unique marketing and promotion strategies in the coming months.
Keith: With the market going through it's worse recession in years. Has it hit Falcon Studios hard?
Troy: This industry is certainly faced with some challenges but if level heads prevail we’ll all find a way to make things work. We’ve had to make some sacrifices here and there and also get more creative with our back catalog re-releases but Falcon is fortunate to have a 35 year history of making movies – we’ll be fine.
Keith: How is the relationship between Falcon Studios and AEBN going? And have you seen a drop in revenue from VOD due to the costs of goods these days for every day gay consumers?
Troy: Falcon and AEBN have a great relationship – as mentioned above we are partnering with them on Falcon Str8men and are currently involved in the national NakedSword, Fleshjack & Falcon Gay Pride Tour which includes a special limited edition of Men Magazine.
Keith: What is the vision of Falcon Ente r tainment going into the 2008/2009 season?
Troy: We will focus like never before on our core brand – Falcon Studios. Falcon Str8men will also be a major priority as we increase the visibility of the site and amount of content we offer our members. We will also be fine tuning our production values with the Jocks and Mustang lines.
Keith: Tell us about the Falcon Brand Novelties?
Troy: We recently teamed up with Doc Johnson so our FalconGear will be maintained and expanded with their expertise. We currently have 14 Supercocks, 3 different sizes of Manrammers, Balls and Butt Plugs.
Keith: Novelties have been a major mover in retail stores over the past two years. Do you see this trend continuing for the Falcon brand?
Troy: Absolutely. Doc Johnson is working on some exciting new items for FalconGear that should hit the market in the fall of 2008.
Keith: Troy, what's next for Falcon Studios this summer?
Troy: On our ‘Best of’ series we will be releasing compilations on Filippo Romano, Lee Ryder, Dick Fisk, Jeff Hammond, Rod Barry and Colby Taylor Vol.2. On Falcon Studios we have “Afterparty” (FVP185) and “Roman’s Holiday” (FVP186). A new Jocks Roadtrip – destination TBD and about ten re-releases.
Keith: Before I let you out of the hot seat, the Falcon Stables! Any new studs that Falcon is now grooming for their debut in Falcon Studio releases? And if so, tell us about them.
Troy: We are always on the lookout for new talent and at any given time we have up to five performers who we are looking at as possible Exclusives. As of right now we represent three of the most famous and most talked about pornstars working today; Matthew Rush, Roman Heart and Erik Rhodes.
We also represent Aden & Jordan Jaric and TJ Hawke – after only 1 year of being under contract they are well on their way to becoming superstars. We also just signed Tony Capucci who made his debut in “Afterparty” w/Erik Rhodes and is currently filming his second movie right now in Las Vegas.
Troy continues...: Some new guys to watch for: Kai Ford (“Winter Heat” and “Afterparty”), Nash Lawler (“Winter Heat”; “Afterparty”; and FVP187 – title TBA), Kyle Pierce ( “Roadtrip Yosemite”; “Overtime”; and “Fleet Week”).
Keith: Again Thank you Troy for doing this interview. Any shout outs for the Falcon Studio fan base?
Troy: We really appreciate each and every fan we have – there are a lot of choices when it comes to porn these days so we don’t take a single fan for granted.
Keith: We love Chi Chi LaRue here on JRL. Troy your the greatest, now could you tell o u r dear JRL fans reading this interview, who is your No.1 source for Info and Entertainment on the Gay Adult Film Industry is?
Troy: Chi Chi LaRue…Ha. Just kidding guys – it’s JRL of course!
