What started out as a college student's "show and tell" project in Internet exhibitionism erupted into a controversy when University of Hawaii officials learned that Speedo Student had filmed himself masturbating on school property.
His posting of that self-directed video on XTube.com set off a firestorm of online response. Such popular sites as Queerty.com and The Huffington Post ran the story.

Now, JRL has been granted a special interview with the newly signed exclusive to the Dirty Bird Pictures label. Please welcome Speedo to JRL.
Keith Witchka: Speedo thank you for giving us his interview with you on JRL.
Speedo: No problem, thanks for having me. Sorry we couldn't get it done sooner.
Keith Witchka: One thing is for sure...You know how to make an entrance in the Gay Adult Film Industry. What made you come up with the idea of posting a solo scene on XTube of yourself?
Speedo: I'd done a couple short videos on dudesnude.com before that, just brief jerkoff clips without any cumshots. Those were very well received and I decided to try doing something longer and more detailed with a speedo theme as well. My first full video was something I did to mark the startup of my blog, and after that, the exposure I saw it was getting encouraged me to keep making others.
Keith Witchka: How did your school react to the posting on Xtube?
Speedo: They reacted to it very badly. Instead of responding to the complaints they received in a way that would have educated students about sexual behavior and how society perceives it, they decided, without any discussion at all, to penalize me for violating the student conduct code.

In fact, that wasn't even a valid response, since university policy prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, and sexual behavior is a product of sexual orientation. What I did was fully protected under university rules.
In addition, they failed to prevent the school paper from publishing a libelous article about me, which the paper later retracted, and the LGBT advocacy center on campus offered me no support whatsoever.
Keith Witchka: I'm sure you had a lot of emails from fellow classmates at your college for hook ups right?
Speedo: Actually I didn't. I think there was one, and that was it. The way my actions were portrayed drove people away from me, not towards me.
Keith Witchka: How did you meed the legendary Dink Flamingo?
Speedo: Dink noticed my blog mentioned in a posting on justusboys.com, and got in touch with me from that before all the major furor started. I had been trying to get into some adult work for a while, but without any success, and what he proposed sounded so good that I jumped at it.
Keith Witchka: ?Were you surprised to see that you attracted the attention of one of the top military genre gay xxx studios in the Gay Adult Film Industry today?
Speedo: Extremely surprised. I was a little bit familiar with Active Duty, and with the kind of guys that usually appear in their productions. Now I'm considerably different from them, so it surprised me, first, that Dink would even be interested in working with me, and second, that he thought it would be such a good idea. But it's turned out very well so far.
Keith Witchka: How would you describe yourself...Top, bottom or versatile?
Speedo: That depends mostly on the other guy and the situation. If he just wants to fuck, then I'm usually a bottom. But if he's actually interested in taking his time and being erotic about it, then I'm fully versatile. I've been told I'm a pretty good top under the right conditions.
Keith Witchka: What type of guys are you personally into and who will you be working with in your first gay xxx feature film for Dirty Bird Pictures?
Speedo: I guess you'd say mostly twinks, leaning a little bit towards jocks. I like slim, lightly muscled guys with handsome faces. Smooth and tan is always a plus. In my first DVD, I'm paired with Shawn and Kaden from Active Duty. That went very well. Let's just say I've been an admirer of Kaden's work ever since The Porne Ultimatum.
Keith Witchka: Can we expect to see you in any gangbang genres or fetish titles in the future?
Speedo: Gangbang work would be extremely doubtful. That's never really appealed to me. Fetish-themed productions, on the other hand, are something I am hoping to do. We based this first DVD, naturally enough, around a speedo theme, since speedos are one of my major fetishes. I also get into feet, lycra grear, sportswear, cum, and of course exhibitionism, so that's a pretty wide variety, and some of it may make it into a future video.
Keith Witchka: What are your feelings on bareback genre? Will we ever see Speedo doing the nasty without condoms?
Speedo: I have no problems with bareback films. It's certainly more natural, and from a practical or economic standpoint, it always attracts large numbers of viewers. But I doubt I'll ever do a bareback film myself unless it's with someone I'm in a relationship with.
Keith Witchka: Why is that?
Speedo: For one thing, that's a level of intimacy that I want to reserve for my boyfriend. My sexual capers haven't exactly been private; they've been exposed quite a bit, far beyond what most guys would be willing to accept in a partner, and given that, I do want to have something I can keep for a boyfriend only.
For another thing, the issue for me isn't about safety, it's about trust. There's no risk involved if two negative performers have unprotected sex – but how can each of them trust the other to accurately know his status and be truthful about it? Personally, I would have trouble trusting others about something that important very quickly. I would only do it with someone I was in a committed, long-term relationship with.
Keith Witchka: Who are your personal favorites as far as performers go in the gay adult film industry?
Speedo: It's hard to say. I'm not nearly as familiar with the performers who are out there as perhaps I should be. Brent Corrigan is usually fun to watch, and he generally puts together pretty good teams of guys on his projects. I'm particularly fond of Cameron Lane, one of the models he's worked with on a number of occasions.
I always enjoy watching the Peters twins – for that matter, I always enjoy just about anything from Bel Ami! And one of my biggest favorites is Australian Kaleb Cove, who does a fantastic job with his own amateur work. There's also Philippe Delvaux, who's still pretty new to the industry if I recall correctly. Other than that, I don't think there are a lot of other performers I've especially noticed so far.
Keith Witchka: Is there anyone special in your life right now and if so, how do they feel about your new career in the Gay Adult Film Industry?
Speedo: There is a very special boy that I'm building a relationship with right now. It is a bit tricky since we're on opposite sides of the country, but it's more than worth it. He's fully supportive of what I'm doing, even proud of it; this morning he asked me to get him a copy of my DVD when it comes out, because he wants to keep a record of my artistic work. He's amazing.
Keith Witchka: How many gay xxx feature films will we be seeing you in for 2010?
Speedo: Right now I haven't got a clue! I would hope a couple more before the end of the year, and Dink and I have tentatively discussed an idea for our next project already, although there's nothing definite decided yet.
Keith Witchka: What's your major in college and, have your professors commented to you about your new career?
Speedo: When I'm in school, I'm a history major. I specialize in military and European history, especially the seventeenth century and the rise of the nation-state and the modern army. None of my professors have said anything about my adult work to me, although there are a couple others who were extremely helpful and supportive during the whole controversy. I have a lot to thank them for.
