THE WILLIAM LOPEZ INTERVIEW WITH THE LEGENDARY PAUL BARRESI
Posted Tuesday August 19, 2008 12:00 a.m. PDT
JRL Fans, JRL brings you the giants of our industry. The man who has been a legend in the Gay Adult Film Industry for more than 35 years. Yes JRL fans, the internationally known Writer, Producer, Director and Actor Paul Barresi is here today on JRLChartsOnline.
William Lopez: Thank you Paul for chilling out with us here on JRLChartsOnline today.
Paul Barresi: Great to be here. JRL has really taken off.
William Lopez: Thank you Paul, it's the fans that make JRL possible every day of the week. Let's get started! Your career in this business spands almost 30 years if I'm not mistaken. You've work with the giants of this business. Tell us how do you stay fresh after all these years in a business that thrives on new faces every year?
Paul Barresi: Actually, I've been in the adult entertainment industry for about 35 years, since having posed for PLAYGIRL back in 1973. I don't know how fresh I have to be because after all, I work behind the camera these days. You are right though. This business was not designed to use the same faces over and over. New talent or talent with a huge following is very important to the success of a movie.
William Lopez: You are currently contracted to direct and produce gay xxx films for the illustrious Pacific Sun Entertainment. How did ink that deal?

Paul Barresi: The new owners of Pacific Sun wanted to keep the Bear genre going. They were happy with what I had done up to this point, so decided to sign me on to continue the line.
William Lopez: Paul, you are most known for your military genre feature films. Do you still feel that the military genre is still a huge draw for gay consumers?
Paul Barresi: I think anything masculine, with a capital M computes to sales. I am not much for the twink stuff. I think most of them look like they will blow away if they get caught in a gust of wind. I don't find that sexy at all. My specialty is capturing the masculine image on screen. Men should be men, period.
William Lopez: With the economy in the state that it is in right now. Are you seeing productions trim down in costs? And if so, is it taking away from the hardocore sexual fantasy that gay consumers expect to get for their dollar?
Paul Goldberg: I honestly don't get involved in the economics. I just make the movie and get paid an honest fee for the work.
William Lopez: Let's talk about your current hit in retail stores nationwide entitled Muscle Bear Trap [2008]. Right now, it's ranked No. 6 on the JRL Weekly Top 20 Bears Chart in America. What do you attribute the success of this film?
Paul Barresi: I've said this before that the success of any project is the result of many people. I praise the cast and crew and editor for making it happen. Of course, the executive producers at Pacific Sun put up the money for the movie, so they deserve credit too.
William Lopez: Arpad Miklos, Christian Volt, Dak Ramsey, Johnny Donovan, Josh West, Ken Mack, Peter Axel and Tom Colt star in Muscle Bear Trap [2008]. Are these exclusive models signed to Paul Barresi Productions?
Paul Barresi: No, as I said, I make the movie and get a fee. I am not part owner of the production company I work for nor do I have a stake in any of the models.
William Lopez: Tell us Paul, what's next for the one and only Paul Barresi and Pacific Sun?
Paul Barresi: At the moment, I am talking with the owners about doing an interracial movie with blacks and latino men. We shall see! If that happens, it will begin production sometime in September.
William Lopez: Something that has been truly staying on the lips of both industry and gay consumers nationwide is bare back content. I've never known you to produce bare back movies. Will we ever see one or are you stone cold against the bare back genre?
Paul Barresi: 100%, NO. I am totally against it. These guys who engage in bare back have a death wish. The thought disturbs me beyond reason.

William Lopez: Forgive me but I have to ask because it is staying front and center in today's marketplace. We have retailers who are dead set against having it in their stores but they are forced to carry it because their customers want it. This is why I was wondering what your thoughts are on this genre...especially since you've been around since bare back was considered pre-condom content.
Paul Barresi: I think they should take it all off the shelves. Even the stuff that is marked pre-condom prior of course to the AIDS breakout, may encourage people who watch it to practice unsafe sex.
William Lopez: Pacific Sun Entertainment recently launched www.pacificsunvod.tv for gay consumers both in the EU and the United States. Where do you see VOD going? I mean, do you see more studios starting their own VOD web sites instead of using the traditional VOD web sites that have been around for the past decade?
Paul Barresi: Again, that's a business call. I am on the creative side of things.
William Lopez: One thing I would personally like to know. If the negotiations go well with the Executives at Pacific Sun to produce a black and latin gay xxx feature film. Will it be the typical gang banger type genre or will it be more mainstream?
Paul Barresi: Not sure but it will get you off, guaranteed.
William Lopez: How about asians? Do they fit the Paul Barresi format?
Paul Barresi: I don't rule anything out. But Asian talent is next to impossible to find.

William Lopez: The reason why I'm asking about Blacks, Latins and Asians, is that we are getting a lot of requests for those particular markets. Retailers have seen an increase in requests for these genres. This is why I was curious as to whether or not you would be tapping more into these markets through Pacific Sun.
Paul Barresi: Well, if we can cast the men, I can make the movie. Makes no difference to me what race or color they are.
William Lopez: Now Paul, here's my favorite part of every interview. The part where you get to talk directly to your fans. Go for it!
Paul Barresi: I owe so much to the gay community and to the adult entertainment industry. I have enjoyed a very successful and very fruitful life making porn. I wish to express my sincere thanks for your support.
William Lopez: Paul, I can't tell you enough how happy I am that you took the time out to do this interview for all of the JRL Fans across the planet.
Paul Barresi: Great to talk to you. Thank you so much.
William Lopez: Now tell us, who is Paul Barresi's No.1 source for Info and Entertainment on the Gay Adult Film Industry Is Seven Days A Week?
Paul Barresi: Hey, remember, I'm a private investigtor too. I know a set up when I see it. ....Okay, I'll bite. JRL of course!
William Lopez: Thanks again Paul and a special thanks to Pacific Sun Entertainment for setting this up today.
