Today we are truly honored to bring you one of today's Top Executive's in the Gay Adult Film Industry. Please welcome, pritam Sinha, General Manager of Pacific Sun Entertainment.
Paul: Pritam, welcome to JRL......and thank you for taking the time out to chill with us here on our network!
Pritam: It is an honor to join JRL in this interview.
Paul: First off, tell how you first got interested in the Gay Adult Film Industry?
Pritam: I have been in the high-tech industry for while, having worked for major companies like ATI, ARM and Cadence. I was looking for some change; something that I could run together with my life partner Weiti. Being a gay couple, it became natural for Weiti and me to run some gay business. Besides, I know this industry is going a rapid change with technology. DVDs are coming to an end while new media such as VOD, internet and even mobile is about to explode. Thus, it became an opportunity to use my high-tech background into something new.
Paul: So tell us about the New Generation of Pacific Sun Entertainment.
Pritam: I believe it is definitely a new sun-rise for Pacific Sun.
First, while for many studios (including the "old" Pacific Sun), the "New Media" is sort of necessary evil, the "New Media" is the life-blood of the new Pacific Sun -- we are determined to make it our core strength. While traditional DVD sales still continues to be bread and butter, "New Media" is where we want our focus and strength to lie. We just launched our wholesale website www.pacificsunwholesale.com) and are working diligently to buid our VOD site.
Second, we are committed to focus more on the production with special attention to quality. The last owner had slowed down production towards thde end; the new management is committed to stir up production to take the Pacific Sun reputation to new levels.
Third, we are committed to focus more on exclusive distribution which is beneficial both for us as well as our exclusive studios.
We particularly welcome new and upcoming studios who need a caring distributor who will help them to get their product out. One success story is Ridgeline Films, a Pacific Sun exclusive, which is already creating waves in the adult industry with the 2 new releases -- "The Rising Star" and "Beyond Malibu" Fourth, we plan to expand into more specialty genres such as fetish and bondage. The first ever bondage and S/M movie has just been produced and is expected to be release in May.
Fifth, we plan to expand gradually into other areas of adult movies such as transexual, lesbian and eventually even straight. Sixth, we plan to expand into toys and novelties.
Last, but not the least, unlike before, Pacific Sun is now gay owned and operated.
For the managers, it is not just a business, it is a way of life -- also something to give back to the community. Pacific Sun plans to support and sponsor events targeted to the gay community.
Paul: Pacific Sun is exclusively distributing Ridgeline Films, Max Entertainment, Phallus Entertainment and Butch Bear Productions. How did you acquire these labels and what made you decide to distribute them?
Pritam: First, Phallus is not a different company, but a label owned by Pacific Sun. We have now set strict quality standards for what goes into our premium "Pacific Sun" label. Any movie that we buy or produce that does not meet that quality standard, but is still very good, we put in our more affordable Phallus label.
We are approached by producers everyday to be distributor for them, we choose only the ones we think we can provide a good match.
Butch Bear and Bear have excellent bear movies that greatly compliment the bear movies released by us.
Max is unique and is a great fit into our family of products. Our most recent addition to our list of exclusive studios is Ridgeline, an independent film company. That was a great find and their movies "A Rising Star" and "Beyond Malibu" have created a lot of noise in the gay porn world.
Paul: You're working a lot with GayVN Hall of Famer Paul Barresi. How did that relationship come to be?
Pritam: We have excellent long-term relation with Paul Barresi. He has produced several excellent movies for us including "Bear Cage", "Bear Fuzz", etc.
He just finished a super new movie "Muscle Bear Trap" featuring stars like Arpad Nicholas and Dick Ramsey -- that is expected to be released the end of May.

Paul: Pritam, tell us about the new PacificSunWholesale.com Business 2 Business web site for retail store merchants and wholesale distributors.
Pritam: Pacific Sun Wholesale B2B website (www.pacificsunwholesale.com) was designed to streamline our operations and to make it convenient for our customers. Now, customers can browse our movies online 24/7, with UPC codes, box-covers, description, cast-list etc. and soon trailers.
That is more efficient than sending lists of titles or brochures. Plus, if they so desire, they can place orders 24/7, track it and communicate with our stuff. The purpose of the website is not to take the personal contact away, rather to assist it.
Paul: With the economy going through tough times, are you concerned that it's going to continue to be a strain on the Gay Adult Film Industry?
Pritam: Yes and no. Porn is supposed to be one of the most recession-proof businesses. Even though porn may seem expensive, it is less expensive than some other entertainment alternatives. For example, summer is a typically a slow time for porn, as people are out on vacation. With recession looming and gas prices at all time high, fewer people are able to spend on travel and outdoors. That makes porn a cheaper alternative.
Paul: How do you feel about VOD vs. Retail?
Pritam: The only thing constant in this world is change. That is even more true for porn.
VOD is fast, convenient and instantaneous. The quality and ease of access is getting better with technology improving at a fast rate. That is definitely the wave of the future as people move away from archaic physical media to what we call "New Media" for adult movie consumption. That we believe is the strength of our new management and we are well positioned to ride the tide. We have signed revenue-share deals with several VOD companies. We are also building our own VOD website.
Paul: One thing about Pacific Sun, is that you are releasing gay xxx features everyweek. Not re-releases, but New Releases. Are you going to be getting into the catalog market at all?
Pritam: Yes, the backbone of our business is fresh and quality new production. We strongly believe it is not good business to clutter the market with cheap porn and several compilations and re-releases and make it a commodity like it has become in the straight market. Gay people have disposible income and they are willling to spend the extra buck for quality new features.
Paul: The GayMagix.com web site is for gay consumers. Will you be revamping it as well for the summer season?
Pritam: We are in the process of building several retail websites, mostly centered around VOD, pay-per-view, pay-site etc. Sellng DVDs will be one of them and a revamped gaymagix.com will be part of that.
Paul: What has been like so far for you in the business? I mean from being on productions shoots, to photoshoots to dealing directly with merchants at the conventions.
Pritam: The variety of work is what makes this busiess fun....
Paul: What are your goals for Pacific Sun Pritam?
Pritam: I believe the future of Pacific Sun is a broad as the Pacific Ocean and as bright as the sun. Pacific Sun has the strong base of a large quality library and a strong brand recognition. Combining that with our vision to ride the tide of new media distribution puts us in an unique position of strength. In porn industry, there are two kinds of industries.
On one hand there are several "traditional" studios and distributors who are apprenhensive of the "New Media" and participate in it only as a "necessary evil".
On the other hand, there are "techie" webmasters who have great internet knowledge but no content.
Pacific Sun has a combination of both. Our vision is to make Pacific the leader in providing top quality affordable gay porn using cutting-edge technology.
