Emilie Rosanvallon of Fun Factory USA Chats with Andy Powell

BURBANK, CA – For the past 15 years, Fun Factory USA has built a solid reputation for manufacturing Top of the Line Sex Toys for Adult consumers worldwide.

Who would have thought that in the mid-1990s two students from Bremen would make the important topic of female passion respectable? Dirk Bauer and Michael Pahl were fresh out of university when they founded their company FUN FACTORY in 1996. I had the opportunity of talking with Marketing and Communications Director of the Fun Factory USA Emilie Rosanvallon (pictured right), to find out what we can expect for the Fall Season of 2011 from The Fun Factory.
Andy Powell: The Fun Factory USA is known for Luxury Adult Novelty products. With the amount of products in the marketplace today from companies such as Cal Exotic, Evolved Novelties, Entrenue and Doc Johnson, what sets The Fun Factory USA apart from these brands?
Emilie Rosanvallon: Fun Factory is the largest European manufacturer of toys. It was the first company to start making silicon vibrating dildos, in 1996. It is a pioneer. It’s got the largest selection of colors on the market. Also, it’s got the largest selection of TEXTURES on the market, with toys that range from having visible velvety texture (for more intense feelings, like the Amor dildo), to very polished ones (for easy insert and quick strokes).
The toys are made of the highest grade silicon available. A lot of toys are only part silicon on the market. This means they are porous and bacteria can lodge itself inside of the material, never with our toys. All new toys are 100% submersible and rechargeable.
We are one of the only brand who also has ART toys (made by Boris Hoppeck). We are also the brand who got the most amount of official design awards like the Red Dot, the IF design awards and the deutscher designer award.
Andy Powell: Congratulations are definitely in order Emilie…Tell me, the New G4-Vibes are an excellent line of pleasure products for Adult consumers. How did Fun Factory come to design this exciting line of premium sex toys that are available in a variety of colors?
Emilie Rosanvallon: The G4 line released back in April of this year. It was designed in house and it is totally waterproof. Plus it features 6 models that come in 2 colors each. Each vibe is rechargeable. Their MSRP is 109.90. They are very successful and we had to double our production capacity for them at the factory over the summer to meet demands.
Andy Powell: One exciting Sex Toy that I wanted to talk to you about is the exciting new COBRA libre! The design is fantastic…who was behind designing this MUST HAVE sex to for Men?
Emilie Rosanvallon: Our president loves cars and wanted to make a toy that looks like a luxury car. Also Fun Factory wanted to make a masturbator that was not a sleeve but a motorized toy.
Andy Powell: Emilie, tell me about the Flexi Felix…this is one that I am sure Adult consumers are going crazy over in retail stores nationwide and in the EU!
Emilie Rosanvallon: The first time we got it in the US was in July 2008. People love it in Canada and here in the United States. It’s a unisex toy that is very soft and great for beginners. It’s 100% body safe silicone like every FUN FACTORY toy. It’s non-porous of course, so no bacteria can hide in the material and you can clean it with just water and soap. It comes in 3 colors: black, pink and blue.
Andy Powell: One sex toy that I am interested on hearing about is the Fun Factory’s Bendy beads! The elastic anal beads chain is made of elliptic shaped elements of varying sizes for which Adult consumers can insert and remove for passionate stimulation. Who was behind the design of this sizzling sex toy?
Emilie Rosanvallon: The first time we got them in the US was in July 2008. Designed internally by fun fact, as almost all products are. They are smooth beads but more rigid than Flexi. They are for a slightly more advanced population of butt play lovers !! Three color: violet, red and black. Their texture is beautiful.
Andy Powell: The Fun Factory has built a solid reputation for manufacturing Luxury Sex Toys. How have retailers responded to your brands both in the EU and the United States.
Emilie Rosanvallon: We have received great response from small boutique, as well as the major traditional adult chains. Even mainstream outlets like pharmacies in Europe, who sell our Kegel balls and layas have reported great numbers on our premium and high-end Sex Toys.
Andy Powell: While we do have sex toys that are economical in the marketplace, the Fun Factory USA manufacturers Adult Sex Toys for the discriminating clientele market. Did you feel that there was a need for these types of luxury Sex Toys in the Adult Entertainment marketplace?
Emilie Rosanvallon: We don’t use the term luxury so much, but more premium or high end. Our sex toys are high end quality but the brand is a lifestyle brand focused on health and fun. We do not show off at all….For example, we would not make diamond or precious metal dildos because we focus on functionality, pleasure and innovation, not so much on the “bling”. The need that was identified back in 1996 was not one for luxury vibes but one for sex-positivity and for toys that are women friendly, couple friendly and queer friendly.
The need in for a fun loving, high tech product made by German engineers! LOL The brand does not identify with the luxury sphere as much as it does with the wellness and Lifestyle sphere. We are all inclusive with toys for pegging, for the fetish community, for the gay community (like the Duke, which is an advanced, high tech anal toy), for mommies (smartballs) etc…If you visit FunfactoryUSA’s official website, you will find that it is very unpretentious. The brand is actually a bit ireverant and very approachable. We are price competitively in the high end toy market.
Andy Powell: What can retail merchants expect when they establish a wholesale account with The Fun Factory USA?
Emilie Rosanvallon: We have a new CEO (since Summer 2011) and increased the size of the sales team. We revised a lot of operational processes to optimize inventory management and shipping. Our products were doubled at the German factory to meet increasing demands from retail merchants and consumers. Retailers can always expect serious customer service from Fun Factory USA.
Plus our vendors can expect some exceptionally advantageous return policies, some floor models, toy displays for all toys on the shelves, material and visits to train your sales staff (floor staff or otherwise). Andy Powell: What does The Fun Factory have on the drawing board coming soon to retail merchants and Adult LGBT consumers for the Fall Season?
Emilie Rosanvallon: We are really pushing the G4 line, which Buck Angel is a big supporter of. He just featured the Big Boss on his new film Sexing the Transman [2011].
