SOUTH AMERICA – JRL CHARTS fans we have a special treat for you today. President and CEO Roberto Escorda of LATBOCON Entertainment joins us here on JRL to discuss the Gay Adult Film Industry, the future of the Gay Adult market and what he has in store for Gay consumers and the retail marketplace for the Fall Season.
Roberto Escorda is no stranger to the Gay Adult Film Industry as he has produced more No.1 hits on the JRL Weekly Top 50 Latin chart in America than any other director of the Latin Gay Adult Film genre.
With over 100 Gay Adult Latin hardcore films as well as 700 episodes for a variety of Adult Entertainment companies in the Adult Industry that have generated huge revenue over the past several years, the LATBOCON brand continues to draw interest from Gay consumers, Retail stores, E-Retailers and the Video on Demand market.
Keith Witchka: Roberto thank you for joining us here on JRL CHARTS
Roberto Escorda: Thank you very much to you.
Keith Witchka: You are the mastermind behind the LATBOCON Gay Adult Film label which has produced over 100 Gay spectacular and might I say stimulating Gay Adult film features as well as over 700 Adult feature films for various Adult Film labels. What motivated you into getting into the Gay Adult Film Industry?
Roberto Escorda: I believe that porn is a genre like any other audio-visual expression, such as action films for example, and it deserves to be treated with respect. I wrote and directed non-sexual films for both the big screen and television, with another name, and once an American company hired me to direct 10 straight porn movies filmed in Brazil. After that was when I started making gay porn. And I wanted to make deeply creative porn, to be valid as a line of popular cultural expression. So my porn is a psychological construction of sexual reality.
Keith Witchka: Were there any directors and/or producers who motivated you into getting into the Gay Adult Industry?
Roberto Escorda: I follow the work of many.
Keith Witchka: How do you go about finding the gorgeous models that you have put into your gay adult feature films?
Roberto Escorda: The actors come to us, although most are heterosexual, because they know that production is highly technical and professional and because they learn to enjoy very good sex on camera. Some of our actors are straight; however, as you know, Latin men are very sexual and enjoy hot sex from both guys and girls … which places many of them more in the bi-sexual category. Even better than in their real lives.
Keith Witchka: Have you ever run across gay adult film performers who were difficult to work with?
Roberto Escorda: All are excellent human beings.
Keith Witchka: In today’s marketplace, the Industry has been going through a major transition. Studios have gone to On-line producing instead of packaging DVDs as well as creating on-line shows instead of producing full length feature films for the DVD retail market. Where would you put LATBOCON Entertainment in this transition?
Roberto Escorda: We are producing content for marketing in many windows: pay sites, video on demand, broadcast TV, DVDs and prints … but the current trend is online porn.
Keith Witchka: I am currently working on an article on Tube Sites vs DVD sales – of which you were one of the Gay Adult Film studios who gave me feedback. In your own words, do you see Free Gay Tube sites destroying the DVD Retail marketplace?
Roberto Escorda: We legally chase in any country, those who use our content for public communication without authorization. I encourage all producers to legally chase those who use their content without permission… I would hope that JRL CHARTS would be required to undertake a campaign against “piracy”, both online and offline.
Keith Witchka: I have been reviewing the Free Gay Porn tube sites and I have to tell you that I have seen many of today’s Top Gay Adult Film studios content on these sites. Do you monitor the Free Tube sites to insure that your product isn’t being viewed for free?
Roberto Escorda: We have teams monitoring and groups of lawyers in several countries, and we have achieved substantial compensations and even taken some owners to jail — those who have dared to steal our content. Our industry is a legal industry that must learn to demand respect from others … Your network, I repeat, should support the struggle against “piracy.”
Keith Witchka: I completely agree with you and JRL CHARTS continues to monitor for illegal activity and to point it out to producers when we have confirmed that content is being distributed illegally. Let me ask you…While Video on Demand has also felt the pinch of not only Free Tube sites but as well as the 2011 Recession – Have your films continued to generate the same revenue at this time as they did in 2010?
Roberto Escorda: We have a very loyal audience that buys our productions, which does not support “piracy.” As a matter of fact, our own audience helps us find the “pirates” of our work.
Keith Witchka: Tell me….you have produced both Condom and Bareback Gay XXX feature films. What in unit numbers, move more for the LATBOCON brand?
Roberto Escorda: Although it might seem wrong, sales figures in both lines are very similar.
Keith Witchka: Do you get a lot of backlash from the Industry for producing Bareback content? and if so, how do you handle it?
Roberto Escorda: Production without a condom, in our case is fully controlled, supported by a package of medical examinations that are made weekly to each actor, in a continuous monitoring of months and months. We make it a point to look out for our models in our productions.
Keith Witchka: In California, there is a strong fight being waged against both the Gay and Heterosexual Adult marketplace to force studios to use condoms in their features. In fact they want to make it Law. What are your thoughts on this?
Roberto Escorda: It seems right to me.
Keith Witchka: Have you had models who are against shooting bareback content?
Roberto Escorda: It is a free choice of each actor.
Keith Witchka: What Medical Clinic does LATBOCON Entertainment uses to insure that models are STD free before starting a new production?
Roberto Escorda: In our country, we use the most important clinical laboratory with the latest technology and responsibility.
Keith Witchka: Are the models that you use in your productions exclusive to LATBOCON Entertainment or are they freelance?
Roberto Escorda: Our actors are exclusive to LATBOCON Entertainment.
Keith Witchka: Let me change up a bit….You recently signed a new distribution deal with XY Distribution in Germany as well as AlphaOmega Distributors here in the United States. What are your goals for having two major distribution companies distributing the LATBOCON and Latino Boys Studios gay adult film labels?
Roberto Escorda: XY-Distribution is the best distribution company in Gay Adult Entertainment. The owner, Mr. Rene Bolinski, is a person who I appreciate and admire, for his professionalism and for his remarkable qualities and intelligence. He is an incomparable friend.
AlphaOmega Distributors, the company making the distribution for both the United States and Canada, is in the hands of another great and experienced professional Mr. Sam Manning, who I know will put our company on the first place of sales in the United States market.
Keith Witchka: Will we ever see your gorgeous models doing any In-Store promotions here in the U.S.A?
Roberto Escorda: We would be love to. We are ready to listen to offers.
Keith Witchka: We have seen many gay adult film performers working for multiple gay porn labels. It gets to a point where you can find one gay adult performer in roughly 30 to 40 productions from various studios. Do you feel that they are over exposed when they choose to go down this road?
Roberto Escorda: I think the audience of porn, as opposed to that of non-sexual films, seeks fewer stars and more, better sex. Although in one of our upcoming films, I must say now, we will film several movies with several renowned American stars that we will take to South America.
Keith Witchka: Your Gay Adult Feature films have hit the No.1 spot on the JRL Weekly Top 50 Latin chart more than any other Latin Gay porn label – Such as Young Lions, Forbidden for Your Eyes, Piel Ardiente, Runaway Horses, Flesh Lust and of course your No.1 hit on the JRL Weekly Top 50 Latin chart for 4 straight weeks last year – Venga Amigo…What is the secret to putting models together that are into each other which comes across on camera so well?
Roberto Escorda: Some of these films belong to Latino Boys Studios but — the secret is to love this genre and know it deserves the dignity of quality.
Keith Witchka: What do you have coming next this Fall from LATBOCON Entertainment for Gay Consumers and Retail stores nationwide?
Roberto Escorda: We will soon have the great American gay porn stars, working with our actors and under my direction. An unprecedented project. This makes me very happy.
Keith Witchka: Will we be seeing any new fresh models this Fall?
Roberto Escorda: Of course … And these new actors will become a huge appeal, I am sure, because the public of the United States and Canada will choose them.
Keith Witchka: What can you tell our readers about Roberto Escorda that they do not know about?
Roberto Escorda: On my new collection of gay erotic novels, soon to be fully translated into English and it will be sold in bookstores all over this country.
Keith Witchka: For potential models who want to audition for LATBOCON Entertainment, what is the best way for them to go about it?
Roberto Escorda: If someone wants to start a career in the porn world, let them know that it is not easy. Because the porn world is not ideal. Society loves it in private, but hates it in public.
